Shaw Men and Women Win CIAA Tennis Titles

By ADD SEYMOUR JR.

Shaw men's and women's tennis teams swept the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference tournaments over the weekend, upsetting the top-ranked Chowan men's and women's squads.

The Lady Bears defeated Chowan 5-3 while the men defeated the Chowan men 5-4. Both Shaw squads - each seeded second - only had five players this season.

"I've been struggling all season long with my five players and for us to win here is just really, really special," said Shaw men's and women's head coach Sunday Enitan to theCIAA.com.  "We just had to focus on what we had to do.  We had to win two doubles and if we could do that, then I knew that we could win."

The men were led by doubles wins by Diego Choque and Sergio Cuertas and the Bears No. 2 team in Bach Tran and Juan Sanchez.

Ana Ruzir and Jessica Medina won their No. 1 doubles match on the women's side while Gislaine Fairas and Marilyne Kemegne took the No. 2 doubles tilt.
