Fayetteville State will make their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association football championship game appearance next week after they erased a 15-point, second-half deficit to defeat Winston-Salem State for the first time since 2004, 23-22.
The Broncos (6-4, 5-2 CIAA, 5-0 CIAA South) will be making their first championship game appearance since 2009 when they defeated Bowie State. They will face Virginia State next Saturday.
Fayetteville State jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Richard Latimer's 41-yard touchdown pass to Stevie Green. But Winston-Salem State (6-4, 4-3 CIAA, 3-2 CIAA South) scored 22 unanswered, as Daniel Rivera kicked three field goals, and Jahiz Linebarger rushed for two touchdowns.
But after Rivera's last field goal, FSU's Brandon Scott took the ensuing kickoff back 89 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter. David Lamb hit a 44-yard FG midway through the fourth quarter and then with 30 seconds left, Darnell Walker had a 1-yard TD run to tie the game. Lamb then hit the extra point for the game-winner.
Green led FSU with 56 yards rushing, 73 yards and a TD receiving. Seth Johnson had 13 tackles, ten solo, for Fayetteville State. WSSU was led by Linebarger's 90 yards and two TDs rushing. Fayetteville State only had ten first downs183 yards of total offense to WSSU's 442 yards of offense. The Rams also picked off Latimer three times.
Undefeated Langston Wins CSFL By Defeating SAGU 14-10
In a battle of Top 20 NAIA teams, 8th-ranked Langston (9-0, 7-0) used a tough defense to hold off No. 16 Southwest Assemblies of God (7-2, 6-1) 14-10 Saturday to win the Central States Football League conference title.
Neither team generated a ton of offense as SAGU outgained Langston 253-229, and in first downs (15-13). But Langston's defense kept SAGU out of the end zone in the fourth quarter, especially huge two defensive stands, one ending at their 10-yard line and another on their 25 with 27 seconds remaining.
Touchdown runs by Taj Johnson and Jaylen Lowe were just enough for Langston to earn the victory.
Tim Whitfield led Langston with 46 yards rushing while Lowe and Milton Harper combined for just 83 yards passing. Arthur Mitchell finisehd dwith 12 tackles for Langston. C.J. Collins had 181 yards and a touchdown passing for SAGU.
Langston plays Wayland Baptist in their final regular season game next week and then awaits the determination of who their NAIA playoff opponent will be.

CENTRAL INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
St. Augustine's 34, Shaw 14 - St. Augustine's (5-5, 5-2, 4-1 South) did what they needed to gain a CIAA Championship Game berth by defeating Shaw (3-7, 2-5, 1-4 South). But Winston-Salem State's loss to Fayetteville State meant they'd miss out on the title game. Jeremiah Miller rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown for SAU, while Demetrius Lewis ran for a score and threw for another. Daron Daulton led Shaw with 96 yards and a touchdown passing while Coleman Blackson Jr. rushed for 66 yards.
Johnson C. Smith 27, Livingstone 14 - Terrance Ervin threw for 190 yards and three TDs and ran for 148 yards as Johnson C. Smith (2-8, 2-5, 2-3 South) defeated Livingstone (0-10, 0-7, 0-5 South). Two of his TD passes went to Gabriel Yuille, one of them for 76 yards. Marcel Toran had ten tackles and a sack for JCSU. Livingstone was led by Thaddeus Bell who threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Bowie State 77, Elizabeth City State 21 - Robert Chesson set CIAA single-game records for rushing yards and points as Bowie State (9-1, 6-1, 4-1 North), the nation's top Division II offense struck again in routing Elizabeth City State (4-6, 2-5, 1-4 North). Chesson rushed for 304 yards and ran for seven touchdowns. The seven TDs tied a CIAA record. The nation's second-best player in total offense, BSU quarterback Amir Hall, had 299 yards and a touchdown passing, along with 52 yards rushing. Bowie State now awaits a call to see where they will be in the NCAA Division II Playoff field. Their only loss was to CIAA North champ Virginia State. Daquan Neal had a huge day for ECSU, throwing for 290 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 92 yards.

North Carolina A&T 35, Norfolk State 7 - Lamar Raynard became North Carolina A&T's all-time leading passer and the Aggies (9-0, 6-0) are 9-0 for the first time ever after defeating Norfollk State (3-6, 3-3). The Aggies have now had four-consecutive nine-win seasons. Raynard finished with 277 yards passing and ran for two TDs, while Marquell Cartwright rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Smith and Aaron Chandler led Norfolk State with 15 and 11 tackles.
North Carolina Central 14, Hampton 6 - Davanta Reynolds' second interception of the day capped a strong defensive effort by North Carolina Central (7-2, 5-1) as they defeated Hampton (5-4, 4-2). Reynolds' second interception in the end zone ended a late comeback bid with 37 seconds remaining. Chauncey Caldwell threw for 181 yards and a toudhdown for NCCU while Isaiah Totten rushed for 76 yards. Jacen Murphy caught seven passes for 145 yards and a touchdown, while on defense, Reggie Hunter had 11 tackles and a sack. Hampton was led by Delmon Williams, who threw for 260 yards, but was picked off three times. Shai McKenzie rushed for 79 yards.

Morehouse 40, Clark Atlanta 0 - Morehouse (4-6, 2-4) sacked Johnathon McCrary seven times, picked off three of his passes, forced a fumble and allowed Clark Atlanta (4-6, 2-4) minus-14 yards in rushing in defeating their Atlanta University Center rivals. Kivon Taylor threw for 166 yards and four touchdowns while Isiah Hicks ran for 97 yards and a TD. David Smith had 14 tackles, three sacks and forced a fumble for Morehouse. Jaquatin Victrum led CAU with 14 tackles while Harding Harper added 11.

Benedict 20, Kentucky State 16 - Johnny Willis returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown with just over three minutes remaining to lift Benedict (7-2, 5-1) to the win over Kentucky State (3-7, 2-4). In a close game, KSU had taken the lead early in the fourth quarter on a Michael Simpson TD pass to Marques Livers. Philip Brown threw for 147 yards and a TD for Benedict, while Kenneth Gunter had eight tackles and two sacks for the Tigers. Brett Sylve had 65 yards rushing for Kentucky State while their defense was led by Kenneth Horn and his nine tackles and a sack.
Albany State 34, Fort Valley State 9 - The Albany State (6-4, 4-2) running game amassed 268 yards as the Golden Rams defeated Fort Valley State (5-4, 5-1). Kellas Williams rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns while Kelan Fraise ran for 90 yards and a touchdown. Williams also threw for 141 yards and a touchdown. Fort Valley State, who had already claimed the SIAC East Division crown and a berth in the SIAC Championship Game, was led by Slade Jarman's 110 yards passing and Chauncey Jackson's 75 yards rushing. Juan Serna kicked a field goal while Zacharius Anderson returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown.
SOUTHWESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Grambling 31, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 26 - Grambling (8-1, 5-0) held off Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-7, 1-4), as Devante Kincaide threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns. In a surprisingly close game, UAPB twice held the lead in the first half and was only down by one point before Marquez Carter's touchdown run just before halftime game Grambling a 21-13 lead, giving the Tigers the lead for good. Brandon Duncan threw for 89 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 86 yards for UAPB.
Alcorn State 47, Alabama A&M 22 - Alcorn State (6-3, 4-1) rushed for 416 yards, the most they've had since 2015 when they ran for 500 (against AAMU) in defeating Alabama A&M (3-6, 3-3). P.J. Simmons ran for 172 yards and two TDs, Noah Johnson rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, and De'Lance Turner ran for 113 yards and a touchdown. Corey McCullogh set a school-record four field goals. Aqueel Glass led AAMU with 142 yards and a touchdown passing, while Jordan Bentley rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Texas Southern 38, Mississippi Valley State 21 -
Alabama State 13, Jackson State 3 - Darryl Pearson rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown and threw for 61 yards to lead Alabama State (3-5, 3-2) to a win over Jackson State (1-8, 1-4). Alabama State rushers combined for 203 yards, led by Pearson and George Golden who ran for 46 yards. Jackson State's Jordan Williams had 50 yards rushing and 55 passing. ASU picked off JSU's Brent Lyles three times.
