Ayers' Three TDs and Bellamy's Two Touchdowns Lead Virginia State Past Elizabeth City State

By ADD SEYMOUR JR.

The Virginia State running game did what they do best, as Kavon Bellamy rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns and Trenton Cannon had 91 yards and a TD as the Trojans held off Elizabeth City State 44-38 Friday night.

Virginia State (5-1, 2-1 CIAA)  Bellamy, Cannon and quarterback Tarian Ayers helped the Trojans run out to a 44-16 lead by early in the fourth quarter as Ayers also threw two touchdowns and ran for another score.

But Elizabeth City State (2-4, 1-2 CIAA) made things interesting late, with 22-fourth quarter points. Quarterback Daquan Neal accounted for two rushing touchdowns during that span.  He finished with 275 yards and two touchdowns passing and led his team in rushing with 75 yards and two TDs.

ECSU had two defenders who finished with double digit tackles - Jaquil Johnson (12 tackles) and Miacah Cooper (11 tackles).  VSU's Geo Feggins had 11 stops, a sack and two tackles for losses.
