Southern quarterback Dray Joseph, who threw six touchdown passes including one to put the Jaguars into overtime against Prairie View and another to win the game 62-59 in the second overtime, was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, SWAC officials announced Monday.

Joseph threw for a career-high 480 yards in a wild offensive game in which the Jaguars trailed 35-13 late in the third quarter. His 11-yard touchdown pass with 50 seconds left put the game into overtime.  His 24-yard touchdown pass in the second overtime won the game.

Alabama State's Kourtney Berry had 15 tackles, a sack and an interception in the Hornet's 40-39 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to be named the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week.  The redshirt freshman linebacker had six solo tackles (one for a loss) and nine assisted tackles.

The SWAC Newcomer of the Week is Mississippi Valley State quarterback Patrick Ivy.  Ivy, a junior college transfer, passed for 152 yards and three touchdowns in the Devils 35-28 loss to Alcorn State. He also rushed for 79 yards on 14 carries.

Alabama State kicker Bobby Wenzig was named the SWAC Specialist of the Week after he hit two field goals (41 and 30 yards) and all four of his extra point attempts, including the game winner in the Hornets victory. Wenzig also punted four times, averaging 39.5 yards a punt, with three of the four being downed inside the 20 yard line.
